This week I thought I'd tell you a bit about custom necklace that I made for the lovely Shalina Patel for her panel talk at the Cheltenham Literary festival last month.
“As soon as I was invited to speak at the Cheltenham Literature Festival on the topic of colonialism I knew it was the perfect opportunity to get something custom made by Anisha. I have loved Anisha’s work for so long and the stories behind each collection really resonated with me. I knew I wanted a necklace that paid homage to my favourite South Asian women from history so I sent some images to Anisha of the suffragette Sophia Duleep Singh, the poet and activist Sarojini Naidu and WW2 spy Noor Inayat Khan.
The final design uses the aesthetic of the jewellery worn by Sophia and Sarojini with the stars from Noor’s French medal the Croix de Guerre as the main element of the necklace. Anisha sent me drafts of the design and I was blown away by how magically she drew inspiration from all 3 women to create such a beautiful piece. Anisha made the whole process such a dream, firm the planning stages to receiving my beautifully wrapped package. I’ve now got a unique necklace that I can cherish for life!”
